The VVA-14M1P was an amphibious Wing In Ground (WIG) ground effect vehicle, meaning that it can attain level flight near the take off surface with the help of a cushion made up by high-pressure air between the hull and the ground/water. Its first flight was in 1972, and the plane would go on to accumulate a total of 107 flights and 103 hours of flight time before being retired in 1987.
The color photographs are from a specimen currently at the Air Force Museum in Moscow. In the old photograph and the scale model of the plane taking off we can see the massive wings spanning 30 meters.
It's also featured in Metal Gear Solid 3, first being rammed and destroyed by the Shagohod (Press F) and later as the main characters escape by taking off from a lake. This might be bt design, since only two prtotypes were ever built. During this sequence the interior is also seen, and considering Kojima, it's probably pretty accurate.
